About Porfirio Vazquez
“These people destroyed my hand, my heart. If you’re good, I will love you forever.” said Porfirio Vazquez. A hit and run case 3 years ago in Mission District took everything away from a man's life. Porfirio's right arm can no longer work and end up homeless. He naturally started building sculptures in various shapes like animals around where he lives by the inner bay of San Francisco.
Porfirio originally came from Mexico in 1988 and lived in Los Angeles for 20 years as an illegal immigrant. In 2008, someone he knows called him and asked him to come San Francisco for job building water fountain, painting and pumping. He worked in San Francisco for a short period and got an accident. He got hit by a car while his is biking on Mission Street and 12th Street. The driver drove away and left him behind. As an illegal immigrant, he had no social security and no insurance. All the medical cost came out from his pocket and he soon ran out of money. “Me no more working, everyday drinking medicines, medicines, medicines... for my pain.” He is forced to quit his job and ended up homeless under these circumstance.
